ABOUT THE SANTA FE OPERA GUILD
The Santa Fe Opera Guild (SFOG) offers educational and social events throughout the year, providing members with opportunities to volunteer and participate in a number of community outreach programs. For the 2011-12 season, SFOG is planning several educational and social events and the Guild's Operagram, e-published monthly, keeps members informed about upcoming Guild and Opera events.
MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS UNIQUE TO THIS GUILD
Membership in each Guild chapter offers standard benefits. However, SFOG regularly presents a series of educational programs for members and non-members and believes that Guild membership should provide "value added" benefits, thus giving members access to events or unique behind-the-scenes views of aspects of SFO's activities not otherwise available.
SANTA FE OPERA PROGRAMS FOR SPRING/EARLY SUMMER 2012
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2012, 4:30 to 6:30pm:
The Opera's Technical Director, Eric Moore, Takes Us "Behind the Scenes" with a Preview of the 2012 Season
In this once-a-year popular program, we visit the "hard hat" Scene Shop at the Opera where detailed set models from several operas will be on display. Always amusing and highly entertaining, Eric will explain how the action of several operas in repertory flow together. Also, you will catch glimpses of sets under construction and hear about innovative, problem-solving issues which frequently crop up.
Limited seating. Reservations required (see Education VP's contact information below). Guild members only.
SATURDAY, MARCH 17, 2012, 10:00am to 2:00pm:
Opera 201: "Guys Who Sings Like Girls, Girls Who Dress Like Guys . . . Confused?" Singer and Stage Director, Kathleen Clawson, Explains It All
Stieren Hall, The Santa Fe Opera. Open to all. $25 includes lunch.
Opera 201 is for everyone - opera virgins, aficionados, and Opera 101 graduates. The program explores the foundation of opera - the voice - by examining voice types and singing styles. Then, SFO's production team shows how opera magic is made: from directing, conducting to costumes and sets.

Books will be sold at the talk.

"Murder Most Foul": Murder in Opera
Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Santa Fe, 107 W. Barcelona St.
Board Member, Bill Derbyshire, will address this topic and how the composer prepares the listener musically for the event. In some operas, the plot is driven by a murder early in the piece. In others, a murder is the result of events taking place throughout the opera. Bill will share his impressions of recent interpretations of murder scenes in Met HD performances and, unless there is a request for a demonstration from the audience, he promises that everyone will leave his lecture alive.
Members Free; others $10
SATURDAY, JUNE 23, 4:30 to 6:00pm:

In his highly entertaining and informative way, he will explain the purpose of critical editions and, with musical examples from the piano, show how they represent composers' original intentions - as far as they can be known.
