"Santa Fe's objectives are distinctly American, and by making opera more compelling and more relevant, it has changed the map of musical America..."

    "Grand Duchess" Open House

Everyone is invited.  Come on out to The Santa Fe Opera, Saturday, May 11, any time between 10:00 and noon. Come and explore the fabulous set being made for The Grand Duchess of Gérolstein, the first opera of the 2013 season. It will be on stage and everyone is invited to discover all that is needed to create an imaginary world. In addition to the set itself, there will be costumes and props and production personnel to talk about this fantastic new production. Everything has been made right at the Opera, including a magnificent 20 foot long touring car, vintage 1920. The open house is free and reservations are not necessary. This is a wonderful opportunity for the curious, young and old, to spend a delightful morning at The Santa Fe Opera.

The Gérolstein Military Academy is the setting for The Grand Duchess ruled by its patroness, the Grand Duchess herself. The place is filled with handsome, macho young men, one of whom she has her eye on. What ensues is mayhem in the delightful manner of composer Jacques Offenbach.

It is not often that the public is invited to spend time on stage, and May 11 is your chance. See you at the Opera!
