La Donna del Lago will be Co-Produced by The Santa Fe Opera and The Metropolitan Opera
NEWS FROM THE SANTA FE OPERA
ROSSINI’S LA DONNA DEL LAGO WILL BE CO-PRODUCED BY THE SANTA FE OPERA AND THE METROPOLITAN OPERA
Santa Fe Opera General Director Charles MacKay has announced that the Metropolitan Opera will be the co-producer of this season’s La Donna del Lago.
The production, which opens in Santa Fe on July 13, stars famed mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato in the title role. The Santa Fe production will travel to the Metropolitan Opera in February 2015 with Ms. DiDonato and the same creative team. The director is Paul Curran, with scenic and costume designs by Kevin Knight. This is the first co-production between The Santa Fe Opera and the Metropolitan Opera.
“We are delighted to be collaborating with the Metropolitan Opera and are thrilled this important production of a rare Rossini gem will be seen by Met’s audiences in New York and around the world via HD,” said Mr. MacKay. “Sharing costs provides an economical way for opera companies to present noteworthy operas to a much larger audience at lower costs, benefiting both companies. We look forward to additional opportunities to work together with Peter Gelb and the Metropolitan Opera.”
2014 CAST CHANGE ANNOUNCED
Anna Caterina Antonacci, who was scheduled open the 2014 Summer Festival season in the title role in Carmen, has informed General Director Charles MacKay that she is, with regret, unable to come to Santa Fe and has withdrawn from the production. She cited personal reasons.
Mr. MacKay announced that in August the acclaimed Puerto Rican soprano, Ana María Martínez will sing the title role. Ms. Martínez was last seen in Santa Fe as Mimi in the 2011 revival of La Bohème. She appeared as Rosina in The Barber of Seville (2005) and as Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte (2003). Her international career has taken her to leading opera houses in this country and abroad. An alumna of Houston Grand Opera Studio, she has sung a number of roles with the company. She is a Grammy Award winner for the recording of the rare Albeniz opera, Merlin with Placido Domingo.
The remainder of the cast is as announced.
