Santa Fe Opera Apprentices to Present Concerts in Albuquerque and Santa Fe

Santa Fe Opera Apprentices to Present Concerts in Albuquerque and Santa Fe

Audiences in Albuquerque and Santa Fe will have more than one opportunity to hear the talented Santa Fe Opera’s Apprentice Singer s. This year two concerts will be presented in each city featuring different programs of arias, duets and ensembles from opera and classical works at each performance.

All four concerts take place on Friday evenings at 5:30. In Albuquerque, they are scheduled for July 12 and August 9 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 9100 Menaul Blvd. NE. The Santa Fe concerts will take place on July 19 and August 16 as part of the popular TGIF Series at First Presbyterian Church, 208 Grant Ave. All are free and everyone is welcome. Doors will open at 5:00 and seating is on a first come first served basis.

The Apprentice Singer program, considered to be one of the finest in the nation, draws singers from all over the world. The apprentices make up the chorus for each of the five operas, appear in supporting roles and serve as covers for principal roles. 43 singers, from the United States, Mexico and Puerto Rico, were selected for this year’s program. There are nine former apprentices in principal and featured roles in the five mainstage productions including Zachary Nelson as Figaro in The Marriage of Figaro who was an apprentice only last year.

The concerts are funded in part by First National Bank of Santa Fe, the City of Santa Fe Arts Commission and the 1% Lodgers Tax.
