    2013 Holiday Concerts

Three young singers from The Santa Fe Opera will perform the popular holiday concert, Arias, Carols, and Songs in several cities throughout the region in December. The tenor twins Joshua and Joseph Dennis along with soprano Sara Heaton, all former apprentices, will join pianist Kirt Pavitt for evenings of songs of the season and classical and sacred works.

The first stop will be the Rio Grande Theater in Las Cruces on December 7 at 7:00 PM followed by Sacred Heart Church in El Paso on December 8 at 4:00 PM. The singers will be heard at the Anderson Museum in Roswell on December 11 at 7:00 PM. They return to Santa Fe on December 13 for a 5:30 PM performance at First Presbyterian Church and the final concert is scheduled for 3:00 PM on December 15 at the Cathedral Church of St. John in Albuquerque. The Choir of the Cathedral under the direction of Maxine Thevenot and members of Young Voices, the Opera’s program for high school students, will also participate in the Santa Fe and Albuquerque concerts. All concerts are free and everyone is welcome. Seating is on a first come first served basis and the doors open one half hour before each performance.

Sara Heaton was an apprentice in 2011 and 2012. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania and her Master of Music Degree from Boston University. She recently sang her first performances of Violetta in La Traviata with Houston’s Opera of the Heights.

Joseph Dennis was a first year apprentice in 2013 and appeared as Giuseppe in La Traviata. He began his undergraduate studies in theater at Collin College before studying vocal performance at Stephen F. Austin State University and Oklahoma State University. He is currently a member of the young artist program at Palm Beach Opera where he will appear in Verdi’s Macbeth in January.

Joshua Dennis was an apprentice in 2012 and 2013. He appeared in the 2013 production of Rossini’s La Donna del Lago and returns in 2014 in Beethoven’s Fidelio. Additionally he participated in the 2013 Spring Tour performing with Ms. Heaton and Mr Pavitt in several cities in New Mexico and Texas. He studied with tenor Bruce Fowler at Stephen F. Austin State University.

Kirt Pavitt has distinguished himself as soloist, accompanist, and musical collaborator. He has played for many of America’s finest singers and instrumentalists and has performed in London’s Wigmore Hall, Avery Fisher and Alice Tully halls in New York, plus numerous cities throughout America and Europe. He has served as pianist and Music Director in the Education Department at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis and his long time affiliation with The Santa Fe Opera culminated in a full-time appointment as Music Associate in 2002.
