Press and Public Relations Director Named

General Director Charles MacKay announced today that Daniel R.  Zillmann, Communications Manager at Minnesota Opera has been appointed The Santa Fe Opera’s Director of Press and Public Relations beginning May 1. He succeeds Joyce Idema who has held the position since 1999 and who will retire at the end of the 2014 season.

A graduate of St. Olaf College in Northfield MN, Mr.  Zillmann has been with Minnesota Opera for the past five years, and before that with Lyric Opera of Chicago (2001-2005). During his tenure in Minnesota the Company’s presence in the metropolitan Minneapolis-St. Paul area was greatly expanded through his innovative use of multimedia communications and social networking. A member of the communications team, Mr. Zillmann was actively involved in marketing, development, audience and donor relations initiatives. Under his leadership, Tempo, the  young professionals organization whose link with friends and contemporaries is largely through social media, was able to broaden awareness of Minnesota Opera and its activities to younger audiences.

Mr. Zillmann is a singer himself and has performed with various choruses since college. He was a member of the famed St. Olaf College Choir that performs world-wide. He is a passionate and knowledgeable opera enthusiast and has attended The Santa Fe Opera for the past ten years as well as many other American opera companies.

He will work with Mrs. Idema throughout the summer as he transitions in his new position.
