2023 Seasonal Production Positions

Our Production Staff is comprised of experienced designers, technicians and craftspeople from regional theatres, opera companies and universities from around the world. Over 60% of our staff are former Santa Fe Opera technical apprentices. Staff compensation varies with responsibilities of the position and experience of the applicant. Staff housing is arranged by the Opera. Housing deductions are based on a percentage that is deducted weekly from your base pay. All staff receive assistance towards the cost of long distance travel to and from Santa Fe.

Alongside our Professional staff are apprentice technicians from colleges and theatre conservatories across the country. The Apprentice Program for Theatre Technicians, established in 1965, is an intermediate to advanced training program. The program offers instruction and practical experience in stage operations, properties, audio/video, costumes, production/music services, wigs and makeup, electrics and scenic art. Apprentices receive an hourly wage with overtime, and assistance with travel to and from Santa Fe, NM. Apprentice Housing is located in Opera owned apartments. Housing deductions are based on a percentage that is deducted weekly from the base pay.

We are hopeful to resume the Director and Designer presentations, résumé reviews, master classes, specialty workshops and portfolio reviews by our professional staff and guest designers are offered throughout the season. Once all of the season’s repertory productions have opened, technical apprentices participate in the production of fully staged opera scenes presented in two evening concerts featuring the apprentice artists. We also host a Portfolio Fair in which seasonal employees can share their work with fellow employees, designers and invited guests. This presentation will be scheduled for midseason. Please bring your portfolio fully prepared, for there is very limited time to work on it once you arrive.

Due to the outdoor setting of our venue, technical rehearsals must begin after sunset, and therefore extend into late into the night.

Audio & Video

Introduction

Department staff and apprentice’s set-up, operate, maintain and repair equipment used to support the rehearsals and production of a five opera repertory season. Familiarity with equipment such as wired/wireless microphones, speakers, digital mixers, intercom systems, video cameras, video monitors, recording equipment, computers & networking, terminating wires and cables is required. Earliest start date is May 22, 2023.

Audio/Video Director, Assistant Audio/Video Director, ELS Administrator, Audio/Video Engineer, Audio/Video and ELS Technician (2).

Assistant Audio/Video Director

The Assistant Audio/Video Director works under the direct supervision of the Audio/Video Director. They are responsible for assisting the A/V Director with many of the department’s responsibilities. These responsibilities include but are not limited to; Day to day operation of the department, coordination with department staff to ensure the correct operation of all systems, coordination with the director for purchases and rentals for the season, leading crews on day-to-day operations, up-to-date knowledge on many key systems and the ability to learn quickly, strong audio/video troubleshooting abilities, frequent communications with other departments, and oversight of the department in the A/V Director’s absence. The Assistant A/V Director is also responsible for helping generate the schedule each week and inputting the information into the scheduling software. This applicant should be a graduate with a BA in Theatre Production or comparable 2-4 years of professional experience or training. Applicant should also have experience with: supervising crews, wiring and soldering, Clear-Com, analog and digital audio consoles, video recording and editing, and a willingness and ability to work within a rigorous time schedule with a variety of personalities and skill levels. ELS Administrator

The ELS Administrator works under the supervision of the Audio/Video Director. This position is responsible for the activation and operation of the Opera’s Electronic Libretto System, and continual upkeep of the system. Responsibilities include; System start-up and shutdown for each performance of a 5-production repertory season including dress rehearsals, pre-season system maintenance, fixing of malfunctioning systems (including fiber and Ethernet networks, and ELS hardware and software), maintenance of show files and system documentation required for operation. The ELS Administrator is also responsible for creating and maintaining show files with music staff input, as well as interacting one on one with the operators for each show. This applicant should be a graduate with a BA in Theatre Production or comparable 2-4 years of professional experience or training. Computer literacy is required. Experience with Excel, Linux systems, and/or coding is a plus. The ELS Administrator position is a salaried exempt staff position with the rate of $1,236.00 weekly.

Audio/Video Engineer

The Audio/ Video Engineer works under the supervision of the Audio/Video Director and the Assistant Audio/Video Director. This positon is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of a variety of electronic equipment around the Opera grounds. These systems include but are not limited to: Clear-Com Freespeak systems, analog, and digital audio systems, analog and digital video systems, audio fold back on and off stage, FOH PA systems, campus-wide 70V PA system, QLab, wireless microphones, Dante virtual routing. The Audio /Video engineer will also lead cable maintenance and repair which involves skills such as soldering, and cable termination. The A/V Engineer will also ensure the correct operation of the Opera’s archival system. This applicant should be a graduate with a BA in Theatre Production or comparable 2-4 years of professional experience or training. Applicant should also have experience with: soldering, supervising crews, audio/video editing, carpentry, QLab, Clear-Com, analog/digital audio consoles, and a willingness and ability to work within a rigorous time schedule with a variety of personalities and skill levels. The Audio Engineer position is a salaried exempt staff position with the rate of $1,133.00 weekly

Audio/Video and ELS Technician

The Audio/Video and ELS Technician works under the supervision of the Audio/Video Director and the Assistant Audio/Video Director. The Audio/Video and ELS Technicians are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the crew. The Audio/Video and ELS Technicians work in tandem to ensure daily projects are completed correctly and in a timely manner. This position will work with a team of 1 to 4 apprentices to complete these projects. The Audio/Video and ELS Technicians are also responsible for shop organization and cleanliness, and supervise the crew in keeping the shop safe. The Audio/Video and ELS Technicians are responsible for interacting one on one with members of the Stage Management team during rehearsals and performances. This applicant should be a senior or graduate with a BA in Theatre Production or comparable 2-4 years of professional experience or training. Applicant should also have experience with: soldering, supervising crews, audio/video recording, carpentry, QLab, Clear-Com, analog/digital audio consoles, and a willingness and ability to work within a rigorous time schedule with a variety of personalities and skill levels. Costume Shop

Introduction

The Santa Fe Opera Costume Shop is a highly collaborative team of talented professionals and apprentices. The shop simultaneously celebrates the contributions of each individual and the strength created through the combined efforts of the whole team. We are fueled by a collective creativity and desire to execute at a high standard, and also recognize that our work is physically and mentally challenging.  Average number of hours worked weekly varies by position and throughout the season (40-65 hours/week).

9 to 14 weeks of costume construction, paint/dye or crafts. Start dates vary beginning in early May.

First time Costume applicants must also submit a hand sewing sample which includes examples of the following: cross stitch (herringbone/catch-stitch), whip stitch (hemming stitch), slip stitch, hook and eye, a 4-hole button sewn with thread shank, and a snap. Draper/Tailor

The Draper/Tailor supervises a team of 8-10 technicians in the production/refurbishment/alteration of new and existing costumes for a 5-production repertory season. Responsibilities include: draping/tailoring/patterning costumes according to designers’ renderings and research; measuring artists and facilitating the fitting of new and existing costumes; supervising construction/finishing/ alterations on assigned costumes; anticipating needs for overtime hours or over hire; attending dress rehearsals as needed; monitoring team safety and morale; and maintaining excellence of product. Applicants should have training in costume technology, or comparable professional experience and minimum 5 years draping/tailoring at the professional or academic level. Start date varies beginning in May. The Draper/Tailor position is an upper staff position with hourly rates at $27.30 per hour with overtime potential.

First Hand/Tailor Assistant

The First Hand/Tailor Assistant assists the Draper/Tailor in the production/refurbishment/alteration of new and existing costumes for a 5-production repertory season. Responsibilities include: measuring artists and assist in fitting new and existing costumes, taking notes for the Draper/Tailor as needed; fabric cutting according to Draper/Tailor direction; preparing/supervising Stitchers, Apprentices and Volunteers in the construction/finishing/alteration/labeling of assigned costumes; attending dress rehearsals as needed; monitoring team safety and morale; and maintaining excellence of product. Applicants should have training in costume technology, or comparable professional experience and minimum 2 years assisting at the academic or professional level. Start date varies beginning in May. Staff Stitcher

The Staff Stitcher works under the supervision of the Draper/Tailor and First Hand/Assistant Tailor in the production/refurbishment/ alteration of new and existing costumes for a 5-production repertory season. Responsibilities include: constructing/altering/finishing work using both hand and industrial machine stitching; pressing/rolling of fabrics; pressing/steaming/labeling finished costumes; assisting in supervising Apprentices and Volunteers; maintaining excellence of product. Applicants should have training in costume technology, or comparable professional experience and minimum 2 year stitching experience at the academic or professional level. The Staff Stitcher position is an entry level staff position with hourly rates beginning at $15.50 per hour with overtime potential.

Millinery Head

The Millinery Head supervises a team of 3-4 technicians in the constructing/fitting/altering of hats and headpieces for a 5-production repertory season. Responsibilities include: developing/fitting hats and headpieces according to designer specification; supervising cutting/ construction/alteration/finishing work on assigned headwear; anticipating needs for overtime hours or over hire; attending dress rehearsals as needed; monitoring team safety and morale; and maintaining excellence of product. Millinery Assistant

The Millinery Assistant assists in the construction/fitting/alteration of hats and headpieces for a 5-production repertory season. Responsibilities include: developing/fitting of millinery pieces according to designer specification and Head Milliner direction; cutting/construction/alteration/finishing work on assigned millinery items; assisting in supervising Apprentice millinery crew and Volunteers; attending dress rehearsals as needed; monitoring team safety and morale; and maintaining excellence of product. Applicants should have training in costume technology, or comparable professional experience and minimum 1 year millinery experience at the academic or professional level. Crafts Head

The Crafts Head supervises a team of 3-5 technicians in the construction/fitting/alteration of costume craft items, including but not limited to: armor, masks, footwear, belts, bags, and jewelry for a 5-production repertory season. Responsibilities include: developing/ fitting craft pieces according to designer specification; supervising cutting/construction/altering/finishing work on assigned craft items; anticipating needs for overtime hours or over hire; attending dress rehearsals as needed; monitoring team safety and morale; and maintaining excellence of product. Crafts Assistant

The Crafts Assistant assists in the construction/fitting/alteration of costume craft items, including but not limited to: armor, masks, footwear, belts, bags, and jewelry for a 5-production repertory season. Responsibilities include: developing/fitting craft pieces according to designer specification and Crafts Head direction; cutting/construction/alteration/finishing on assigned craft items; assisting in supervising Apprentice Crafts crew and Volunteers; attending dress rehearsals as needed; monitoring team safety and morale; and maintaining excellence of product. Head Dyer/Painter

The Head Dyer/Painter supervises a team of 1-3 technicians in the  dyeing/painting/texturing/distressing of garments and fabric for a 5-production repertory season. Responsibilities include: developing/executing dye/paint samples and recipes according to designer specification; attending fittings as needed; delegating/supervising of team on all dye/paint items; anticipating needs for overtime hours or over hire; attending dress rehearsals as needed; monitoring team safety and morale; and maintaining excellence of product. Applicants should have training in costume technology, or comparable professional experience and minimum 3 years dye/paint experience at the academic or professional level. Assistant Dyer/Painter

The Assistant Dyer/Painter assists the Head Dyer/Painter in dyeing/painting/texturing/distressing of garments and fabric for a 5-production repertory season. Responsibilities include: developing/executing dye/paint samples and recipes according to designer specification; attending fittings as needed; and maintaining excellence of product. Applicants should have training in costume technology, or comparable professional experience and minimum 1 year dye/paint experience at the academic or professional level. The Assistant Dyer/painter position is a mid-level and above staff position with hourly rate at $18.55 per hour with overtime potential.

Costume Design Assistant

The Costume Design Assistant assists the Costume Shop Administrative team and Designer in the production of costumes for 1 of 5 shows in a repertory season. Responsibilities include: collecting/ organizing/distributing information and materials for the show; assisting with the inventory and distribution of shipments; coordinating the pulling, organization, and use of rehearsal clothing; assisting in the fitting new and existing costumes, documenting via notes and photographs; assisting workroom in the construction, finishing work, and alterations on costumes as needed; restocking unused costume pieces; coordinating paperwork for inventory and dressing sheets; attending all dress rehearsals; and maintaining excellence of product. Applicants should have training in Theatre Production or Design, or comparable professional experience with training in Costume Design and construction. Applicants must be proficient in Microsoft Word/Excel and Google docs/Sheets and have strong organizational and collaboration skills. Start date varies starting in mid-May. The Costume Design Assistant is a salaried exempt staff position with a rate of $1,030.00 per week.

Shop Assistant/Shopper

The Shop Assistant/Shopper assists the Costume Shop Administrative team in the procurement of materials/supplies related to the production of costumes for a 5-production repertory season. Responsibilities include: local shopping/sourcing such as shoe repair and rubbering; assisting with the inventory and distribution of shipments; assisting with rehearsal clothing requests and organization; organizing/balancing receipts and petty cash; assisting workroom in construction/alteration/finishing work as needed; restocking fabrics; answering phone; and maintaining excellence of product. Applicants should have a BA in costume technology, design, or comparable professional experience and minimum 1 year experience working in an academic or professional costume shop. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and be proficient in Microsoft Word/Excel and Google Docs/Sheets. Wardrobe Supervisor

The Wardrobe Supervisor supervises a team of 3-4 Wardrobe technicians and 15 additional Apprentice Dressers in the organization, maintenance, and running of a 5-production repertory season. Responsibilities included: setting up dressing rooms; assisting in labeling costume pieces; setting crew dressing assignments and training dressers; creating dressing sheets and show tracking paperwork; cleaning/washing/pressing/steaming of finished costumes; repairing costumes; checking-in costume pieces; supervising Wardrobe Crew during the tech and run of the shows; assisting artists in dressing at top of show and throughout performance; assisting in quick changes; coordinating/executing show changeovers; and maintaining excellence of product. Applicants should have training in costume design or technology, or comparable professional experience and minimum 3 years Wardrobe Supervisor experience at the academic or professional level. The Wardrobe Supervisor is a salaried exempt staff position with a rate of $1,133.00 per week.

Wardrobe Assistant

The Wardrobe Assistant assists the Wardrobe Supervisor in the organization, maintenance and running of a 5-production repertory season. Responsibilities include: setting up dressing rooms; assisting in labeling costume pieces; assisting in creating dressing sheets and show tracking paperwork; cleaning/washing/pressing/steaming of finished costumes; repairing costumes; repairing costumes; checking-in costume pieces; assisting in supervising Wardrobe Crew during the tech and run of the shows; assisting artists in dressing at top of show and throughout performance; assisting in quick changes; executing show changeovers; and maintain excellence of product. Applicants should have advanced wardrobe experience or similar experience in other theatrical venues. Start date is end of May. Lighting & Electrics

Introduction

9 weeks of hang, trial focus, practical construction, and technical and dress rehearsals. 4 weeks of daily repertory focus and running shows. Start dates vary from May 22, 2023.

Positions Available: Staff (10) – 3 Lighting Supervisors, 1 Head Electrician, 1 Assistant Head Electrician, 2 Staff Electricians, 1 Lighting Programmer, 1 Projections Programmer, 1 Video Programmer – Disguise Software

Head Electrician

The Head Electrician works with the Lighting Director in implementation of repertory lighting and projections for a 5 opera repertory season. Duties include: creating and maintaining paperwork, supervising equipment, leading the research and engineering of all electrical projects including practical elements and effects, obtaining materials and rental equipment, and leading a crew of staff and apprentice electricians. Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a variety of theatrical settings, and minimum of 3 years experience as an electrician: including complex practical installation, soldering, and leading crews. Experience with the following software: ETC EOS, Vectorworks, MS Excel and Filemaker Pro. Start dates vary, starting mid-May, 2023. The Head Electrician position is a salaried exempt staff position with a rate of $1,442.00 per week.

Assistant Head Electrician

Assistant Head Electrician assists the Head Electrician in managing the crew in the implementation of the repertory lighting system. They purchase all equipment and supplies, coordinate rentals, maintain department petty cash, and complete all budgetary paperwork. The Assistant Head Electrician assists in the planning, researching and engineering of electrical projects, maintenance of practicals, effects and gear. They also train and supervise the crew, anticipate needs, requirements, and requests of the department. They maintain documentation necessary for revival of productions. This applicant should be a graduate with a BA in Theatre Production or comparable professional experience or training. 2-4 years of professional experience. Applicant should also have experience with: running crews, wiring and soldering, ETC EOS, MS Excel, Filemaker Pro, and a willingness and ability to work within a rigorous time schedule with a variety of personalities and skill levels. The Assistant Head Electrician position is a mid-level and above staff position with hourly rates beginning at $20.60 per hour with overtime potential.

Staff Electrician

The Staff Electrician works with the Electrics Staff to supervise and assist the crew during daily tasks, research and engineer practicals, set mounts, special effects and electrical projects. They maintain equipment, materials, and inventories, help to keep the electrics shop clean and organized, and serve as primary supervisor for all staging rehearsals. This applicant should be a Graduate or Senior pursuing a BA in Theatre Production or comparable professional experience or training. 2-4 years of professional experience, including running and training crews in a theatrical setting. Willingness and ability to work within a rigorous time schedule with a variety of personalities and skill levels. The Staff Electrician is an entry level position with hourly rate beginning at $15.50 per hour with overtime potential.

Light Board Programmer

The Light Board Programmer operates and programs the light board for all rehearsals and performances, runs console for daily focuses and helps to maintain all elements of the lighting system including the emergency generator system. Leadership of various projects, manage inventory databases, and coordinate the layout and patch of all DMX devices. This applicant should be a graduate with a BA in Theatre Production or comparable professional experience or training with 2-4 years of professional experience running and programing ETC EOS consoles, and control systems. Applicant should have a willingness and ability to work within a rigorous time schedule with a variety of personalities and skill levels. The Light Board Programmer position is an upper-level staff position with hourly rates beginning at $22.50 per hour with overtime potential.

Lighting Supervisor

The Lighting Supervisor assists the Lighting Designers in efficient and accurate implementation of repertory lighting for 3 to 4 operas. They create and maintain accurate paperwork and drawings and develop paperwork for up to 5 follow spots for each opera. They call and supervise daily focuses, and assist designers during all onstage events. The Lighting Supervisor anticipates needs, requirements and requests of the designers, and maintains the artistic vision for each performance. In addition, this position maintains all documentation necessary for revivals. Minimum requirements and experience are a BA in Theatre Production or comparable professional experience or training with a minimum of 3 years assisting professional lighting designers. Experience in repertory lighting and/or outdoor lighting is extremely helpful. Required experience: Vectorworks drafting, Filemaker Pro, and MS Excel. This position requires a willingness and ability to work within a rigorous time schedule with a variety of personalities and skill levels. The Lighting Supervisor position is a salaried exempt staff position with a rate of $1,236.00 per week.

Projections Programmer

The Projections Programmer is responsible for the installation, programming & maintenance of all hardware and software required for video production in a theatrical setting. Thorough and proficient programming experience with Disguise media servers & software is required. Additionally, the applicant should have a good understanding of large video systems including signal flow & routing, cable/connector types, large format digital projectors, projection mapping workflows and large show-control networks/network management.

They will serve as the primary programmer of the video system and be required to attend all rehearsals and performances to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the video playback. Additionally, this position will endeavor to be available for any off-line programming requested by the design team. The Projections Electrician is also responsible for the daily line-up and calibration of the projectors and video system – traditionally during daytime hours in conjunction with the lighting focus. Recommended experience with 3D modeling and UV unwrapping for Disguise.

This applicant should be a graduate with a BA in Theatre Production or comparable professional experience or training with 2-4 years of professional experience with Disguise media servers, advanced networking, projector & system maintenance. The Projections Programmer is an upper-level staff position with rates beginning at $22.50 per hour with overtime potential.

Production & Music Services

Introduction

13 weeks of supporting performances, onstage rehearsals, orchestra rehearsals and general notes. This position overlaps with several areas of production, i.e.: stage, props, and scenic art. Excellent position for someone interested in theatre production. Heavy lifting and physical stamina required.

Production & Music Services Supervisor & Assistant

Supervise a crew of 5 apprentices. Duties include (but are not limited to) developing, implementing, and tracking all orchestra set-up and tear-down. With the apprentice crew, these individuals work in the orchestra pit as well as the rehearsal hall to ensure readiness of equipment for music staff and instrumentalists at all on-stage rehearsals and performances. Regular heavy-lifting of music stands, percussion, harps, and other unwieldy instruments up and down stairs into/out of the pit is required. This crew serves as the stage crew at daily staging rehearsals onstage, cleaning, mopping, setting scenery and conducting scene changes as needed. Organization and accuracy in paperwork is a must. Previous experience with musical ensembles is a must. Start dates are mid to late May, 2023. The Production/Music Services Supervisor & Assistant Supervisor are both salaried exempt staff positions. The Supervisor rate is $1,133.00 per week and the Assistant Supervisor rate is $1,030.00 per week.

Properties Department

Introduction

2 to 16 weeks in construction and finishing of furniture, stage dressing and prop elements. Run staff and apprentices support technical and dress rehearsals and repertory performances. Earliest start date for Properties is February 13, 2023 (most start May 15, 2023).

Prop Lead Crafts Artisan

The Prop Lead Crafts Artisan is a staff position working with a team of staff and apprentice technicians and is responsible for the creation of new stage props and the refurbishment of existing stage props for a five (5) production repertory season. The Prop Lead Crafts Artisan must be prepared to fulfill the following responsibilities throughout the season: coordinating and facilitating needs and labor throughout the craft shop for all 5 productions, maintaining a prop build schedule for the crafting of stage props from designers’ drawings, notes and research along with research and information from the Properties Director. These props will include hand props, soft goods (upholstery); and stage dressing. Applicant must efficiently manage a schedule for a timely delivery of props to rehearsals, techs and assigned productions; monitor safety and morale; prepare materials ordering lists; mentor staff and apprentices in props crafting, maintenance of equipment and tools; and excellence of product. Applicants must have a wide range of crafting skills which should include some, if not all of the following; hand stitching, soft good construction and upholstery, use of industrial sewing and over-lock machines; mold making and casting; floral arranging; paper goods, graphics and construction; woodworking; and a willingness and the ability to work rigorous hours. The prop carpenter must be prepared to fulfill the following responsibilities throughout the season: construct furniture and stage props from designer’s drawings and research along with research and information from the Properties Director. These props will include furniture as well fabricated prop pieces and mounting/rigging of props for stage and rehearsal. The Prop Paint Charge is a position that works with the Prop Staff Painter and (1) apprentice technician or (1) Journey Person and is responsible for the painting of new stage props and the refurbishment of existing stage props for a (5) production repertory season. These props will include furniture, hand props; soft goods; and stage dressing. Prop Buyer/Shopper

The Prop Buyer/Shopper position is a seasonal staff position responsible for purchasing and procuring of stage properties and or related materials for the construction and fabrication of stage properties for a five (5) opera repertory season. They must be able to handle a large petty cash draw and a company credit card which will require frequent and timely balancing of receipts and cash, and submitting necessary paper work for reimbursement. Any shortages or loss in petty cash are the responsibility of Prop Buyer/Shopper to rectify. They should have experience in money and receipt handling; bookkeeping organization and/or retail sales, theatrical production and/or crafting. They must be licensed to operate a full size pick-up truck. Knowledge of decorative arts, style and fabrics are a plus. The Properties Director and the Properties Administrator direct and assist the Prop Buyer/Shopper with research, schedule, priority setting, organization and bookkeeping. They should possess a passion and patience for shopping for the stage. The Prop Buyer/Shopper position is a entry-level and above staff position with hourly rate starting at $15.50 per hour with overtime potential.

Prop Run Crew Chief

The Prop Run Crew Chief(s) is staff position working with a team of staff and apprentice technicians and is responsible for the accurate and safe running of rehearsals and performances as they pertain to the prop department, cataloging and recording of notes, production paperwork and narratives for the running of stage properties, and mentoring of run crew prop apprentices in a five (5) production repertory season. The Run Crew Chief must be prepared to fulfill the following responsibilities throughout the season: Make crew show assignments and schedules, accurately spike/mark on stage and in rehearsal locations the of props from drawings and ground plans; record notes and changes; along with Stage Management produce a production narrative and mini-ground plan; Applicant must efficiently manage a schedule for a timely delivery of props to rehearsals, techs and assigned productions; monitor safety and morale; mentor apprentices in prop performance and rehearsal running and note taking; maintain excellence of product; catalog performance props; support assigned rehearsals and performances. Applicants must have a wide range of skills which should include, if not all of the following; Stage Management skills and experience, tech and rehearsal experience, crew leadership, computer skills; a valid driver’s license and the willingness to drive a step van or truck; and a willingness and the ability to work rigorous hours. A minimum of a BA in production/technology is preferred, or comparable professional experience with a minimum of (2) years in a SM / ASM and or crew chief position at the professional or academic level. The Prop Run Crew Chief position is a mid-level and above staff position with hourly rate starting at $18.55 per hour with overtime potential.

Seasonal Prop Administrative Assistant

The Seasonal Prop Administrative Assistant works with the Properties Director and Assistant Properties Director and is responsible for assisting and supporting the Props Department in the administrative and clerical needs of the department for a five (5) production repertory season.  Applicants must be prepared to fulfill the following responsibilities, which include but are not limited to: bookkeeping, filing, research, scheduling, entering and tracking labor hours, creation of forms and contact sheets, and cleaning and maintenance of the office areas, supplies and equipment.  Other responsibilities include assisting with executing and tracking orders placed via telephone, catalogs, and the internet, assisting the Shopper/Buyer with local and Internet shopping, and maintaining accurate accounting, committed funds, petty cash, and credit card records. The  Administrative Assistant also helps with the creation, organization, and updating of operational vendor and archival files including show bibles as well as entering properties inventory data, photography of properties, generating packing manifests, and assists in the striking, tagging, and packing of properties for storage and rental.   The applicant should maintain a professional, practical, and nurturing attitude with vendors, volunteers, community members and other company members and a willingness and ability to work rigorous hours.  This position requires a minimum of a BA in Production or comparable professional experience, with a minimum of 2 years in a clerical or stage-management position at the professional or academic level.  The Properties Administrator is a entry-level and above Staff Position with an hourly rate of $15.50 per hour with overtime potential.

Properties Run Crew Administrator

The Properties Run Crew Administrator works with the Run Crew Chiefs, Properties Director, Assistant Properties Director, and the Properties Administrative Assistant and is responsible for assisting and supporting the Props Run Crew for a 5-production repertory season.  Applicants must be prepared to fulfill the following responsibilities, which include but are not limited to scheduling, entering and tracking labor hours, creation of forms and contact sheets, and cleaning and maintenance of the office areas, supplies and equipment.  Daily responsibilities include assisting with transporting properties to appropriate halls, and supporting both day and evening rehearsals and performances as needed. The Properties  Run Crew Administrator also assists with the creation, organization, and updating of archival files including entering properties inventory data on Sherlock, photography of properties, generating packing manifests, and assists in the striking, tagging, and packing of properties for storage and rental.   The applicant should be a team-oriented worker who can also work independently and take initiative within the props run crew.  They should maintain a professional, practical, and nurturing attitude with vendors, volunteers, community members and other company members and a willingness and ability to work rigorous hours.  Minimum BA in Production or comparable professional experience with a minimum of 1 years in a clerical or stage-management position at the professional or academic level.  The Properties Run Crew Administrator is a entry-level and above Staff Position with an hourly rate starting at $15.50 per hour with overtime potential.

Safety Department

Introduction

12 to 16 weeks. Duties include supporting existing safety program and COVID safety protocols; maintaining first aid kits; accident & injury reporting and follow up; on-call to support injuries and transportation for workers comp care; maintaining safety equipment inventory; planning and execution of crew meals during late-night technical rehearsals; monitoring known hazards, including wildfire smoke; supporting safety training/education onsite. Previous training/experience in first aid and CPR a plus. Earliest start date is the beginning of May 2023. The Safety Coordinator position is a salaried exempt position with the rate $1,000.00 per week. The Assistant Safety Coordinator position is an entry-level staff position with hourly rate of $18.00 per hour with overtime potential.

Scenic Art Department

Introduction

Between 12-20 weeks of scenic painting, sculpture, texture, and other finish work. You must submit a portfolio to be considered for a position in this department. Staff positions require 3 years of professional experience. Earliest start date for Scenic Art Staff is March 13, 2023.

Positions Available: Staff (4)

These positions require the applicant to have at least three years professional experience. Responsibilities include painting and finishing of all scenic elements including covering, priming, texture work, sculpting and applying scenic details. Candidates must have the ability to mix and match colors and knowledge of scenic materials and tools, craft skills (including casting and mold making). Start date is mid-March 2023. The Staff Scenic Art positions vary from entry level thru senior level. The rates for these positions are as follows: Entry level/Journeyman rates start at $15.50 per hour. Staff level rates start at $21.00 per hour. All Scenic Art hourly positions have overtime potential.

Stage Department

Introduction

15 weeks of technical and dress rehearsals, work notes, repertory scenic changes and show run crew. Heavy lifting and physical stamina required.

Stage Operations Supervisor/Assistant Stage Operation Supervisor

Responsible for training, leading, and supervising the 19 – Apprentice Stage Crew, 2 – Show Crew Supervisors, and 3 – Stage Crew Leads. Duties include (but are not limited to) taking responsibility for the physical stage, wings, roof and trap room and the transitioning of scenery from storage to stage and back again. With the Assistant Stage Operations Supervisor and the Stage Crew Leads, facilitate changeovers between shows in the repertory. They must know and understand all parts of each scenic unit and be able to troubleshoot and make repairs on the fly. With the Show Crew Supervisors, they assist in the planning of the running of the shows. They are also responsible for Crew hours and assignments within the season as well as any paperwork related to the run of the stage and equipment. —e.g. fall protection, tools, etc. The Stage Operations Supervisors must be organized individuals with very good people skills who can effectively lead a large crew in a fiercely deadline-driven environment. Previous professional supervisor experience (or equivalent) is a must. Reports to Technical Director, Assistant Technical Director and Production Director. Start date is May 15, 2023. The Stage Operations Supervisor position is a salaried exempt staff position with a rate of $1,339.00 per week. The Assistant Stage Operations Supervisor position is a salaried exempt staff position with a rate of $1,236.00 per week.

Show Crew Supervisors

Responsible for learning the run of each opera and then training, leading and supervising the apprentice Stage Crew in daily preparation and backstage duties for run-throughs, technical and dress rehearsals and performances. Know and understand all parts of each show and each scenic unit and be able to assess, troubleshoot, and make minor repairs and adjustments. Supervisors make crew assignments within each show’s deck run sheet, and are responsible for the development of all paperwork relevant to the run of each opera. Must be highly organized and detail-oriented individuals who can multi-task and effectively lead a large crew in a fiercely deadline-driven environment. Reports to Stage Operations Supervisors, Technical Director, Assistant Technical Director and Director of Production. Previous professional crew leadership experience (or equivalent) is a must. Start date is May 15, 2023. The Show Crew Supervisor position is a salaried exempt staff position with a rate of $1,236.00 per week.

Stage Crew Leads

Responsible for leading smaller units of the Stage Crew in a very “hands-on” way, including projects, changeovers, and run crew duties. Stage Crew Leads will run shows from the opposite side of the stage from the Show Crew Supervisor, taking on most of the duties of a Supervisor has during a performance. Each Crew Lead must know and understand all parts of each show and each scenic unit and be able to troubleshoot and make minor repairs and adjustments on the fly. With the Supervisors, Crew Leads help make crew assignments within each show’s deck run sheet. With the Stage Operations Carpenter, Crew Leads should have sufficient layout and construction skills to lead the crew on wood and metal scenery projects during off-stage time. Stage Crew Leads must be an organized individual with very good people skills who can effectively lead a large crew in a fiercely deadline-driven environment. Reports to Stage Ops Supervisor and Carpenter, Technical Director, Assistant Technical Director and Director of Production. Previous professional run crew experience (or equivalent) is a must. Start date is May 15, 2023. The Stage Crew Lead positions are an entry-level staff position with hourly rate at $15.50 per hour with overtime potential.

Wigs & Makeup

Introduction

8 weeks of construction of new wigs and accessories, and dressing of existing pieces. 4 weeks of wig maintenance and makeup for repertory performances. Earliest start date is June 5, 2023. The Wig & Makeup Staff position is a mid-level and above staff position with hourly rate starting at $21.00 per hour with overtime potential.
