JOB DESCRIPTIONS


APPRENTICE ELECTRICIAN

Description: Work as part of a crew of eight electricians to complete a daily change over & re-focus of approximately 250 lights in a 1 ½ hour period of daylight, build practicals, and wire set mounts. All apprentices will either run a follow spot or work as a deck electrician for all 5 operas.

Requirements: College level technical theatre experience with an emphasis on lighting or comparable professional experience. Pursuing a career as a technician or designer. Experience with a variety of lighting equipment, standard focus procedures, basic knowledge of electricity and wiring. Willingness and ability to work within a rigorous time schedule with a variety of personalities and skill levels.


STAFF ELECTRICIAN

Description: Work with the Electrics staff to supervise and assist the crew during daily tasks, research and engineer practicals, set mounts, special effects and electrical projects. Maintain equipment, materials, and inventories, help to keep the electrics shop clean and organized, and serve as primary supervisor for all staging rehearsals.

Requirements: Graduate or Senior pursuing a BA in Theatre Production or comparable professional experience or training. 2-4 years of professional experience, including running and training crews in a theatrical setting. Willingness and ability to work within a rigorous time schedule with a variety of personalities and skill levels.


LIGHT BOARD OPERATOR

Description: Operate and program the light board for all rehearsals and performances, run console for daily focuses and help to maintain all elements of the lighting system including the emergency generator system. Maintain, distribute, and file all necessary paperwork for the department. Leadership of various projects, manage inventory databases, and coordinate the layout and patch of all DMX devices.

Requirements: Graduate or Senior pursuing a BA in Theatre Production or comparable professional experience or training. 2-4 years of professional experience running and programing light boards, and control systems. Experience with computers and DMX devices. Willingness and ability to work within a rigorous time schedule with a variety of personalities and skill levels.


ASSISTANT MASTER ELECTRICIAN

Description: Assist the Master Electrician in managing the crew in the implementation of the repertory lighting system. Purchase all equipment and supplies, coordinate rentals, maintain department petty cash, and complete all budgetary paperwork. Assist in the planning, researching and engineering of electrical projects, maintenance of practicals, effects and gear. Train and supervise the crew. Anticipate needs, requirements and requests of the department. Maintain documentation necessary for revival of productions.

Requirements: Graduate or Senior pursuing a BA in Theatre Production or comparable professional experience or training. 2-4 years of professional experience. Experience with running crews, wiring and soldering, computers, Vectorworks, Filemaker Pro. Willingness and ability to work within a rigorous time schedule with a variety of personalities and skill levels.


LIGHTING SUPERVISOR

Description: Assist the Lighting Designers in efficient and accurate implementation of repertory lighting for 2 to 4 operas. Create and maintain accurate paperwork and drawings. Develop paperwork for up to 5 followspots for each opera. Call and supervise daily focuses, and assist designers during all onstage events. Anticipate needs, requirements and requests of the designers, and maintain the artistic vision for each performance. Maintain all documentation necessary for revivals.

Requirements: Minimum BA in Theatre Production or comparable professional experience or training. Minimum 3 years of assisting professional lighting designers. Experience in repertory lighting and/or outdoor lighting is extremely helpful. Experience with computers, drafting in Vectorworks, Filemaker Pro, MS Word, and MS Excel. Willingness and ability to work within a rigorous time schedule with a variety of personalities and skill levels.
