Working with New Mexico's 19 Pueblos and 3 Reservations each year for 35 years, this nationally recognized program provides a multi-dimensional theatrical and operatic arts experience that honors participants' tribal heritage and rich cultural identity. Year-round programs and events include Student-Produced Opera, the Spring Apprentice Tour, and Youth Nights. Gifts help make it possible to offer all events free of charge.
Donors to this longstanding program help provide an opportunity for New Mexico children and young adults to see Opera dress rehearsals at a substantially discounted price. Public school teachers are offered free tickets to bring promising students. Nonprofits working with at-risk children and youth also receive subsidized tickets, as do children in the Pueblo Opera Program. Interactive education presentations help engage young audiences before performances and during intermission.
Children develop dramatically improved literacy skills while working together to create the story, music, costumes, sets and staging of their own opera in this critically acclaimed program, led by teams of artists-in-residence professionally trained in music and theater. These programs are offered virtually free of charge—and with some 35 projects and 4,000 participants annually, sponsorship support is warmly welcomed.
