A Letter from General Director Robert K. Meya

Happy Holidays From the Santa Fe Opera

On August 5, 1957 “The New York Times’” Howard Taubman wrote, “The measure of the Santa Fe Opera’s enterprise is that in its first season it has produced a new American Opera.” It was Marvin David Levy’s The Tower. In another aspect of enterprise at that time, over 100 “students” auditioned and 12 were accepted into the nascent Apprentice Training Program for Singers. Not ten years later, in 1965, our first class of Apprentice Technicians took flight. Now, each May when our campus awakens to spring, we welcome the arrival of both classes of Apprentices, who travel to Santa Fe from all over the world for training that ensures the excellence of opera’s future.

As we look forward to presenting our 2024 Season featuring of four new productions, including our 19th new opera, a well-loved revival and two Sunday evenings of Apprentice Scenes, we also look forward to having you join us. Together we will build upon the extraordinary enterprise that is the Santa Fe Opera and our long-running mission to foster an appreciation of opera among a diverse public.

Until then, and on behalf of all of us at the Santa Fe Opera, happy holidays. I wish you peace and goodwill in the New Year.

Sincerely,
