YOUNG TECHNICIANS

Designed to introduce a select group of high school students to the process used by creative teams to take a score/libretto from the page to the stage.

This two-year experience acquaints students with scene analysis, establishing the place, time period, and mood of the production through collaboration, communication, and teamwork, to make the story visual and come alive. The many aspects of technical theater are introduced, including scenery, lighting, properties, costuming, and sound along with the understanding of aesthetic issues in performance planning, design, preparation, realization, and management of the production.

  • Hands-on studio and production program taught by visiting technical professionals, instructors, and mentors.
  • Open to students entering their sophomore or junior year in August 2017.
  • Program is free to those who are accepted.

Please check back in Spring 2018 for the application.

Young Voices

The Young Voices of The Santa Fe Opera was created in January of 2008 to encourage, nurture, and guide high school students exhibiting talent, desire, and potential for singing classical music. Program participants receive voice lessons and musical coaching by The Santa Fe Opera’s music staff as well as training in diction, music theory, and basic acting. In addition, students participate in Master Classes by visiting guest artists, attend cultural events, and have multiple opportunities to gain performance experience through studio classes, community engagement activities, and public performances. Participation in this program is free of charge, however students are asked to commit to a regular and rigorous training process. Since the inception of the Young Voices, seventy-two students have participated in the program and many are now pursuing further studies in prestigious music programs.

  • Open to students entering 9th-12th grades in August 2017.
  • Program is free to those who are accepted.

Please check back in Spring 2018 for the application.
