Theirs’ is one of the most epic love stories ever told. Join us on a journey that forever changed the landscape of classical music.
Isolde, an Irish princess, is being taken against her will to Cornwall aboard the ship of the knight Tristan, whose uncle, King Marke, plans to marry her. Previously, Tristan had killed Isolde’s fiancé Morold in a duel and had tricked her into healing the wounds he sustained in the fight. Isolde insists that she will not disembark until Tristan atones for Morold’s death. Tristan offers Isolde his sword, but she will not kill him. Instead, Isolde suggests that she and Tristan share a drink of friendship. Isolde, adept in the ways of herbs and magic, has charged her companion Brangäne to prepare a death potion for her and Tristan. But Brangäne instead brings a love potion. Tristan and Isolde drink it and fall immediately in love.
